I own a Sony ECM-MS907 microphone. It works very well in recording any venue I've tried. The option of recording with 90 degree or 120 degree coverage is very helpful, especially when recording a large group, such as an orchestra or band. However, my opinion is probably jaded, since I have not heard a recording with the MS957. Sony always makes good equipment, and I'm sure it's a good mic, but you can't go wrong with the MS907.

I also own a Sharp 702 model minidisc recorder/player. When I couple it with my Sony mic, the recordings come out beautifully. I also own a Sony player only, and it plays minidiscs rather well. I haven't heard any live recordings done with a Sony, but I can assure you that a Sharp is a great recorder.
