I use a Audio Technica AT 822. Very, very good stereo mic (often used for field radio recordings). Cost £250 ($400?).I had a radio shack camcorder stereo mic that sounded nearly as good as the Sony, but only cost £25 ($40) !
I also have 2 minidisc recorders, a MZR35 (seems to sound better than the newer ones) and a MZ1,which records and sounds better than any later MD I've come across. You can also alter the recording level whilst recording, without having to stop or pause due to its' analogue input stage (ie a dial!). Unfortunately, the battery only lasts an hour!

Mail me for any other info!
