I have the same problem in small practice rooms with my Sony mic. I usually have to set the Mic Sens to low so I don't get those little distortion blurbs. Just how luch is this Audio Technica mic everyone is raving about. I am seriously interested in one. By the way I live in Japan and we have the new Sony MD MZ-R909. Nice features added to this one and a real clean recording sound. But for some reason I still miss my Sharp MD that I bought 5 years ago and just crapped out on me a month ago. It just stopped wanting to record. It is a huge one but it made the cleanest of recordings.
