"I wrote Georgia on My Mind. Wrote it out at Harry Shackelford's house in Jackson Heights. Stew Gorrell wrote the lyric. Also wrote Lazy River about the same time. Larry
Leonard had come to New York to seek that sandy isle and fortune and lived with me. I had a small apartment now in the East 50s. He heard a small band
and a clarinet-player stuggl- ing to write a song. He told me about it and said I
should work with him on it. That is would be a hit. I did and it was a hit as was
Georgia on My Mind. I mention this to show Larry's influence."
