Most people I've asked about this subject who have basically the same range on bass and contrabass tubas tend to use a fairly large mouthpiece on both size horns. Wouldn't the use of a substantially smaller mouthpiece on F or Eb shift the playing range higher? Sure, you'd need to use a different embouchure, but wouldn't it be worth it?
