I enjoy what you've said, but as for "strictness" of time, I've heard Yo-Yo Ma and other people take many liberties in the Bouree movements of the cello suites. I think that it is important to allow for some metric expression. The movements were modelled after the dances and, I don't believe, necessarily meant to be treated strictly.
