At ITEC this year, I noticed that Willson has changed the look of the valve caps and buttons on their euphoniums. I also noticed that Hirsbrunner is apparently using the same maker's valve set on their horns. The question: does anyone know if there is more than a cosmetic difference from the old Willsons to the new (play test back to back?) and how has the change in valve set effected the Hirsbrunner?
I have a pre-change "hand-made" Hirsbrunner and have not had the opportunity to play the new set-up on these yet. The valves on my Hirsbrunner have a much more open wrap and plays very open compared to the old Willsons (and probably the new Hirsbrunners?). I'm curious to know why the change in the Willson. Different supplier? if so, why?
