Geneva International Corporation is now importing Josef Lidl tubas from the Czech Republic. I first saw and played one at the ITEC this Spring, and they hands-down beat anything else in the under-$3,200.00 price bracket. A lacquered 4-rotary valve tuba with nickel-silver leadpipe and miniball linkage, they are compact enough for a middle schooler to handle, but play well enough to be used professionally. The instrument is a departure from most Czech horns in that it has very quiet, tight valves and linkage, has a .740" bore, and has a relatively large bell flare to about 17". Imagine a really well-made 5J with rotors! These come with a nice molded-plastic case w/ wheels.
