By the way, as I remember from reading, Arnold Jacobs did not prefer the light sound of the 6-valve French tuba in C, not even for Bydlo, even though he thought it had a fantastic range. In other places, I have heard that tuba called a "percolator" because of its timbre and all that tuba crammed into a small space. To me, though, the idea of a broad range made somewhat easy is appealing but not enough to switch from a compensating B & H.
