Au contraire, mon petit oompah! I had a repairman use a dent eraser on a Conn 3J (thick metal) and it worked beautifully.
Without cleaning the inside tubing, there was no evidence of imprinting dirt, etc.
He did grease the lacquered area and put wax paper between the magnets and the brass, maybe that's what you needed.
A dent in one of the small bows proved almost impossible to erase because the dent ball did not have enough mass to work against the metal. But then, this wasn't the UMI dent eraser, it was home-grown by a small town genius three years ago.
