Using my "home grown" dent eraser, I've found that traditional barrel-shaped dent balls are more useful than ball bearing-style balls, particularly in small branches. For one thing, they have more mass for a given diameter and they seem to be made of mild steel rather than chrome steel, resulting in a very strong attraction.

One interesting aspect is that you can usually find a barrell with a curvature corresponding to a bow section and roll it along a dent, much the same as a dent roller and obtain a very clean result, rather than getting the more-or-less point-contact of a simple sphere. (I hope what I've said makes sense)
