DEG is very good about replacing that knob and nut. I have gone through about 6 of those with 2 stands that I own. They have also sent be the foam pad that sticks to it.
I am amazed that they haven't re-tooled to make a groove sort of system in the shaft of the stand so one doesn't have to tighten the living daylights out of it so it doesn't slip. In the meantime, they have great customer service. You'll have the part in less than a week.
