i broke my wrist two years ago, and i had a show with my hs jazz band a week later. of course i couldn't play my bass, but my director wouldn't even hear of me playing tuba in it. he preferred the sound of a keyboard bass. i attribute this to ignorance and and unwillingness for new things, and even when the rest of the band loved the tuba sound, he wouldn't budge on his position. i think that it's just discrimination against change.
