The German National Anthem Melody is still the same today as it was in the cruel old days of Hitler and his gang (so stopping all diplomatic connections to Germany now?), just the 1st verse was cancelled after the war. The fact, that U.S. people can get offended by such a students' performance story in 2003 is just ridiculous. Why not getting upset by all the Hollywood Nazi movies that have been made, most of them even with doubtful historical accuracy?
What me as a German really shocked in the post WWII history in context with "prominent" Nazi killers and U.S. "prosecution" was the fact, that the U.S. allowed many of them to escape to Pan and South America - maybe as a result of an anti Soviet knowledge deal transfer (?), other ones as being convinced but skilled top Nazi military staff got priviledged and used for anti Soviet intelligence activities in the Cold War, and many German space scientists who had worked for the Nazis before - partly even constructed the German V2 missiles, were invited to immigrate and work in the U.S. - just in order to be successful in the inter Super Power run for getting space superiority.
One could call this double morals!!!
