You didn't say which arm he uses now.
The link goes to a Dixielandjazz forum post discussing a slide trombone player who used his left arm prosthesis (left hand and forearm): "He wraps the cross-brace of his trombone with a small towel, and grips it with his prosthetic hand (spring-loaded side-by-side flat metal hooks, actually)."
I would also look into a valve trombone, which could be customized for a left-handed player. And perhaps a cimbasso could be played with either hand--just don't try to march with it.
