For me agility and response are only loosely related to horn size. I find my Holton to be more agile and responsive than my smaller York Master, and to be more responsive than my still-smaller Miraphone 186. I have played F tubas of the same size (and even smaller) as my Yamaha 621 that were less responsive.

The responsiveness of some large instruments is part of their magic, it seems to me.

And it's the same with tubas that I've play-tested. I have found, for example, the 5/4 Meinl-Weston 2000 to be more responsive than, say, the 4/4 Conn 52J, which most people find to be pretty responsive it its own right.

The breadth and depth of the sound (although not loudness) is more related to the general size, at least it seems so in my fleet.
