Well I think we all know that it's when he really gets serious about tuba and needs to sound like a pro. Any CC will give you that type of sound and instant boost in playing ability. Well...maybe not. In all seriousness, though, I switched when I bought the tuba I planned on using through college and the first part of my career. I would switch when you plan to buy a horn and if a CC is the one you find fits you. I know a few guys who have done very well on their BBb's through college. Try models of both. See which one plays the best for you.
