My school district buys almost exclusively Yamaha low brass instruments. They are very cost effective and durable in my opinion.

The valve guides, however, after lots of use do tend to wear out. My repair man gives me new ones for free--they are very easy to replace. Mind you, we only have these problems after years of public school use. Also, sometimes when the valve stems become loose, the nubs on the bottom of the valve guides will slip into the wrong hole on top of the valve--again, easy to fix.

We are very happy with our Yamaha's. They are great for public schools with not a lot of money to spare.
