check out the Besson Ebs (981 & 983).
The 981 is the larger of the two and is a nice all around small 4/4 tuba. Ken Amis of the Empire Brass plays one (at least he used to I have not seen them for a few years).
I use mine for 90% of my work - brass quintet, jazz stuff, band (I am not usually the only tuba) and pops orchestra gigs (I am the only tuba).
The 983 is a bit smaller and has more of a soloistic sound. Pat Sheirdan helped design this horn and it is his main horn I believe.
