It's still a month away, but on Friday, Nov. 7, the Suffolk County Music Educator's Association (SCMEA) will sponsor the 23rd consecutive Howard Hovey Tuba Day. We will have around 200 euphonium and tuba students registered to participate. Add 25-30 teachers to that number and we should have a Massed Tuba Ensemble of, at least, 225. The event takes place from 3-9:30PM at Comsewogue High School in Port Jefferson Station, Long Island on Bicycle Path. Ray Stewart of SUNY Fredonia College will be our guest artist this year. On the evening concert, he will perform with his brass quintet (plus 1) from New York City, the Meridian Arts Ensemble. If you'll be in the area, you can register at the door ($12.00 payable to SCMEA) at 3PM and particpate in the afternoon rehearsals and clinics. Then, there's the concert, free to the public, beginning at 7PM, which will be packed! It will be a great time for all! Feel free to email me for any additional info. And don't forget NYC's TUBACHRISTMAS on Sun., Dec. 7!
