Don't know if Mr Jacobs would like the term "Resistance/Strength Exercises." He was always into air flow where the purpose was to expand and contract the respiratory system. When using the plastic breathing toys, he starts with them wide open then starts closing them. When doing that he has the student go for time, imagining a long string player's bow.

I carry Sam and Pat's Breathing Gym and have seen them work with a group. They have derived many of these excercises from Mr Jacobs but have added their own twist. They do not get into resistance, they are into air flow. If you watch them do these, they are using what Mr Jacobs would call "Minimal Motors" - there is not a lot of muscular tension.

If you would like to see a sample of The Breathing Gym and videos of Mr Jacobs using some of the toys, take a look at www.windsongpress.com - there is a link to "Use of Breathing Devices" and on the left side of the main page a graphic of the Breathing Gym cover.
