Slidin' down that slippery slope

What is it with me and trombones these days?

It was in a trailer behind the antique store--the trailer with the sign on it that said "Make me an offer." I noticed the nickel-plated bell right off as being something unusual. Sure enough, it was a Conn Connstellation 48H, a half-inch-bore pro-model trombone, made in the Elkhart trombone glory days of 1959. A few dings on the tuning slide, plus one small ding on the upper slide sleeve and a couple of depressions halfway up the bell stack are the only problems. A little slide work is all it needs to be a fine player.

Even with the draggy slide it's fun to play, with good slots and an intensity lacking in the little Olds. For a half-inch straight tenor, it blows big with the little Conn 3 mouthpiece, and it is dead in tune.

I got it for a hundred bucks.
