The magnets I use are quite a bit stronger that the one UMI supplies in their patented kit and I can assure you that substantial damage can be done when the tool is in the hands of the unskilled.
Where the Dent Eraser is fairly useless is in branches less that 1 1/2" in diameter and where the brass is reinforced or crinkled. NEVER attempt to use it on the bell stack or the bell. The very best way to remove dents is still take the horn apart and do it the right way. All that said, the use of magnets and balls works just fine for quick dent work on school horns and instruments where the user is not too particular or low cost is mandated. I use magnets and balls on my own horns but am quick to point out the perils when working on someone elses stuff.
