I haven't heard of any adverse side effects other then more difficulty controlling volume, especially in the low register and tuning , especially in the high register, as a result of opening up the backbore.

I am playing a Besson BBb Imperial. On either my H.M.S. 24AW or my Yamaha 67C4 mouthpieces, the sound is restricted and requires more force then i would like to play.

The problem is not with the tuba: Air blown into it through just the lead pipe moves quite freely. As well, I get this same "limited" sound from my Yamaha 321 BBb.

The problem is not with me: It is not with me. (trust me)

Blowing through either mouthpiece, I feel quite a restriction in airflow. Blowing through a straw with the same diameter as the open end of the throat, I feel no restriction.

These facts lead me to believe that the problem is with the mouthpiece.

If this is not the case, perhaps you, Mr.Elliot, could tell me what the problem actually is.

Thank you for your time.
