I can second this story, Dave. When I lived in Deland in the late 70's and early 80's, I took some lessons with Russ and he had the Holton with the detachable bell. The recording bell sat in his garage and was HUGE. He used the Holton in the Florida Symphony along with a very interestingly engraved Alexander(many risque pictures of women etched into it) and a wonderful 1845U-CC that he loved. He also had a really strange little Besson F with the tiniest rotary valves I had ever seen on it. Russ is one of those GREAT tuba players no one ever hears about.
