I went to IAA for three years on tuba, and I graduated in 2002, and I must admit that what "h" says has some truth to it, but unlike college, the overall experience of going to interlochen is what makes the school, not just the teacher. To be in an environment where it's not abnormal to practice every day and there's regular guidance and encouragement can make a huge difference to a person so early in their career. I must say that going to Intertlochen changed my life for the better and would recommend it to any young tuba player, despite the fact that your teacher would just happen to play trombone. I must say that having Riccobono for a teacher definitely did not prevent me from becoming a decent tuba player--I won Falcone student division in 2000 and got into the University of Michigan. (not trying to be cocky, but providing evidence for my case--please don't take this the wrong way, tubenet!)

Email me if you have specific questions. You'll love Interlochen should you choose to go.
Carol
