I won't comment on your ranking, but having graduated from Northwestern as a euphonium major, I can vouch that Rex Martin is a fantastic teacher as well as a really great person.

I loved my experience at Northwestern, but it's not for everyone - you have to have good grades, you might wait a long time before playing in an orchestra, and it's famously expensive (although never let that stop you from applying anywhere.) Oh, and if it's good football you're looking for, forget it, because the Wildcats will invariably let you down. But the students and faculty are great, and Evanston is a cool place to spend four years.

I've also taken lessons with Fritz Kaenzig (Michigan), Dan Perantoni (Indiana), Mickey Moore (Illinois), and John Stevens (Wisconsin) - you'd be in very capable hands with any of these professors.

Good luck!
