Some schools will get you noticed during academic job searches.

For example, having Eastman on your resume will usually get you past the first round of a search for a college teaching position. The same can be said for FSU and Iowa. FSU has strategically marketed their graduate students through networking. Iowa graduates at one point held the most positions as department chairs in schools of music in the US. Indiana also has a strong reputation for producing college teachers.

Everybody will find their own path to employment and success in music. (There is no one way to do things.) Attending three varied universities and having at least one "name" institution on your resume can be a good plan if you intend to go on to teaching at a higher level. Being a monster player never hurts.

As a friend said "practice rooms are the same at every school." It's also true that you can take lessons and attend conferences outside your own institution.

Good luck!
