I am unfortunately well aware of the over-diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and over-prescription of drugs for it. My mom taught special ed for some time, and I have done a few years of psychology study myself. I think that in this case he might actually BE ADHD, but the parents are probably not aware, and I think the school (a small, private Christian school) might not be in the practice of targeting such issues. He's not badly behaved, he just has NO attention span whatsoever.
This child is a great kid, and I hate to see him give up. I am VERY encouraging, and that keeps him going. I was thinking that since he hates to talk, and since he won't count aloud (kinda reminds me of myself once upon a time!), maybe I will have him jump up and down to a rhythm... burn some energy at the same time!
Anyway, thanks so much to everyone for the encouragement and information! There is a lot of valuable stuff here I will definitely use!
