I tried one for a little while about 10 years ago. It does add resistance -- and it did help the few funky notes on a not-so-vibrant Meinl-Weston F a little bit, but it just made my CC stuffy. (I love and bought that particular CC because it has little resistance)

I am not so convinced of the monumental difference, but it did improve a lousy F a tiny bit.

Don Novy is a really nice guy and put a lot of research and time into this gizmo -- I knew him when I was growing up in Denver, but bought the gismo somewhere else (I forgot where)

It is compared to the old matchstick trick, and is of the similar philosophy. But, I have since learned that resistance can be a crutch that limits you in the long run. This gismo goes along with that whole "play by feel" thing – which I have done my best to abandon.
