This has worked with favourable results at least once:

Once done, apologize to the audience about the quality of the performance, and lament over how you never should have expected a general audience to enjoy 45 minutes of tuba playing.

But you know that there's one thing that can save the evening.

walk off stage, *cue techno/dance music and cut the lights*

lights are off, on stage comes the dance team that you rented from the high school down the street.. dressed in black, with glow-in-the-dark gloves, doing very intricate coreography. Lights slowly come on to reveal you amongst the very attractive (albeit a bit too young for you!!) dancers.

crowd goes wild.

once done, you thank the crowd, wish them a wonderful evening, and them to leave a small donation on their way out (you're a professional, after all).

good luck!

Anthony
