As lately as in June of this year Mr. Sharman King of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra let the tuba player of the Vancouver Philharmonic play his Scherzer of Augsburg F cimbasso (4R - 2 slide triggers) in the ouverture from Verdi's Luisa Miller. The instrument has a narrow receiver and was played through a Bach 1 1/2 G with a shaved down stem.

Of course I cannot say anything about the availability of that instrument or whether it will fit your needs, but this local option might be worth trying out.
