Basically, there is nothing inherently wrong with Amati tubas. Any tuba that is built with a particular priority towards being lightweight and responsive is not going to be as durable as a heavier horn built like a tank. And, since a lot of these instruments were bought by school systems looking only at price, the instruments got abused and the Amati name got the blame, not the short-sighted persons responsible for the purchases.
Whether new or older Amati, it should give good service if well cared-for.
