I've used all three with my Willson 2900. I started out on a Schilke 51D, but didn't like the rim. I felt that it was to small and didn't give me the open feeling that I was looking for. I tried the SM3M, but found that the sound didn't have a good core, it was big and tubby, but didn't have the singing quality that I wanted. I then tried a Doug Elliot XT J cup with a 103 rim. I used this until I started taking lessons. The instructor thouhg t that the sound of the Doug Elliott was very bright and suggsted that I try his 51D. He thought the 51D produced a much warmer sound than the DE. He then demonstrated both the DE and the 51D. The 51D was definitely better when it came to the sweetnwss and warmth of the sound. The DE produced a larger, more powerful sound, but definitely brighter. Finally, I has a 51D made to fit my DE rim. I found this to be the best combination.
