I'd like to find and buy the little 5-valve F tuba (no name, made in the 1920's), that Dr. Donald Stauffer sold in 1995 through the Tuba Exchange.
Dr. Stauffer's son Mark and I took the instrument to the Rudolf Meinl factory in 1988, where the Meinls completely restored the antique tuba. It has 5 clockwork spring valves the 5th is left-hand, and there is no engraving except for "Rudolf Meinl" in very small block lettering on the bell, placed there when they restored it.
I was transferring from one duty station to another in the spring of 1995 when I saw it at the T.E. I just about had a cow when I saw the horn at Vince's place. If I'd had another couple hundred dollars at the time, I'd have bought it.
It is not the best F-tuba in the world, but if someone out there would be pleased to sell it, please e-mail me. Otherwise, I hope it is being used or appreciated.
