Venting seems to usually help slured passages to be smoother. Also, isn't bottom space A (bass clef concert pitch) fingered 2nd valve on an Eb? Then when you go up to B natural, you are adding tubing by playing 1st and 2nd valve. If I have that right, it means you are jumping over a harmonic series. Try 2nd and 4th for the A and then slur up to 1st and 2nd for the B natural. You will be staying in the same harmonic series that way. I think that is true, but I don't play Eb tuba.
