That's a tough question because you say you only need two excerpts. Keep in mind that you want to demonstrate as wide a variety of styles/abilities as possible, which is difficult to do in only two pieces. You want to show a full range, including high and low register playing, as well as dynamic contrasts. You may want to include something that demonstrates your ability to play legato, and also, something technical in nature.

A couple of good pairings would be Wagner, Die Meistersinger and Prokofiev, Symphony No. 5, or Mahler Sym. No. 1 and Wagner, Ride of the Valkyries. Compliment your choice of excerpts with the solo you intend to play. Anything not demonstrated in the excerpts should be shown off in the solo, or vice versa.

Some other good choices for upper register playing include Berlioz, Symphony Fantastique and Wagner, Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin. Another good choice for low playing is Respeghi's Fountains of Rome.

As far as excerpt books are concerned, get the Torchinsky books. There are many volumes available, one or omre for each composer, and they have the complete parts. There are several posts on the BBS which indicate where these books can be found. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any additional questions. Good luck.
