First of all, if it is a college audition they are not too worried about which excerpts you play. You might not even play them at all. The teacher just wants to hear you play and get a feel of how teachable you are. Since you asked, I will answer. The most standard excerpt to play in Die Meistersinger (sp?). Learn the whole piece though not just at J. If it were me, I would then play something that shows off my low register. Fountains of Rome is good if you can play it. I like the scherzo from Mahler V, I think it shows a lot about someones ability to get around in the basement of the horn. Above all, play what you sound the best on. The best way I have found to get excerpts is to buy the Torchisnsky books. The publishers are either Jerona or Encore music. They are a bit pricey but you get the whole parts. I hope that this helps.
