Andy,
I have three possible suggestions for a mouthpiece for your 5/4 Rudolf Meinl. When bought my Rudy 5/4, it came from the factory with a Bruno Tilz M-10, which is a very deep mouthpiece, but with a slight bowl at the bottom. The Tilz HM-1 is a helleberg-style mouthpiece designed to complement the response and intonation of the R. Meinl tubas. The Tilz M-0 is a larger helleberg-style mouthpiece with a rather deep funnel shape.
If your R. Meinl has a large mouthpiece receiver, an American mouthpiece shank will go in too far and throw off the tuning of the instrument. you can order most mouthpieces today with your choice of shank size. Get the right one and your life will be more pleasant.
