Today has seen the passing of a great man. Mr. Mirr was a great trumpet player, musician, teacher, and friend. For those of us who had the wonderful pleasure of knowing him, Mr. Mirr will be greatly missed. For almost forty years he has taught trumpet, coached brass quintets, and most of all taught the love of music to many muscians in the Richmond area and abroad. Having made the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at age seventeen set him on the course of becoming one of the greatest muscians I have known. He has had a significant impact on trumpet players and tubists alike. There is hardly a brass player in the City of Richmond that he did not teach or coach. I am glad to have known him as a teacher and friend. He will be greatly missed by his friends in the Richmond Symphony, Virginia Commonwealth University, students, and his family.

Good bye Mr. Mirr
