I disagree with John's opinions of the Silent Brass. I love my Silent Brass, which has revolutionized my practicing. I now have the opportunity to practice at least twice as long as I ever have before. The mute I have is considerably less stuffy than my other mutes, and the electronics (though not perfect) adequately suit my needs. In fact, I brought my Silent Brass to the USC masterclass and both Tommy Johnson and Jim Self agreed that this device, though not a subsitute for a regular practice session, was a adequate way to increase practice time. Just my thoughts. I know some people do not like the Silent Brass, but I highly recommend it.
