I had my CC tuba mouthpiece plated 16 years ago by Cliff Blackburn, the trumpet maker. He told me the durability is all in his prep of the mouthpiece before the plating process. My mouthpiece is still going strong so he must have been right. I do love the feel of the gold plating. I also had my new F mouthpiece plated a couple years ago.
