I own one and I enjoy it. I use the horns on my more legit type gigs and I am quite happy with it. It took a long time for the valves to break in. You might want a repairman to accelerate the process for you by honing the valves. I've used it on some stand up German band work and it is a bit heavy even with the strap. The slides are easy to get to and you will need to use the first valves slide if you don't want to really lip down the Eb's. I've not played it on a dixie gig. If that's all I was playing, I would go with the conn 5J. It is also a great horn.
