it's ALL ABOUT the audio technica pro35x. i stumbled upon this mic in a guitar store (brought my horn in to try it, got some WEIRD looks) and i love it. it's a condenser, so it requires phantom power, but phantom power supplies are not terribly expensive if you don't happen to have one. my experience has shown that it provides a very accurate image of tuba and trombone, with very even frequency response, both in live and recording environments. audio tech also makes a wireless version.
