The Bach 7 is a LOT bigger than the 18. Try a Bach 12 first. It has a little wider inner cup than the 18, slightly narrower rim (cause the outer diameter's the same as the 18), and more total cup volume. Same cup depth as the 18. Not lots more 'work' than the 18, whereas the 7 might be too big for some playing, or too dark for some concert horns.
The Bach 7 is GREAT for sousaphone, however....
A good alternative for the recommended Bach 12 would be a Mirafone C3, or the Yamaha 67C4 (easy to find- its 'stock' with all Yamaha tubas. Borrow one from yer classmates)
