For the sake of a tuba novice like me, does a four-octave range generally start at pedal B-flat (six ledger lines below the bass staff?) and go up to B-flat above middle C (four lines above the staff)? I realize that I've probably identified myself as a BB-flat player, but is that generally the range? It's certainly something to aspire to.
FWIW, I thought the pedal B-flat at the end of "The Land of Make Believe" in BLAST was truly inspiring.
