one final bit to consider.......especially if this is a slow passage or otherwise long note.

Seeing an E# will often mean that you are in the Key of F#. If the E# is the third of C# chord (leading to the F# most likely) you may want to flatten the note slightly to make it an 'in tune' third of the chord. depending on the intonation of your horn, you might lip the note with the open fingering, or play the note 4th valve, or play the note 1 and 3 and pull a slide
