Well, we'll find out soon enough. If we don't go on strike, the FPO is scheduled to perform Meistersinger this season. Ironically, it is the first time this piece has been programmed in the 15 years I've been here. I haven't performed this piece since college. I've heard of guys using lots of vibrato on this work but I never have, at least in auditions. It is such a backwards application of the tuba in my opinion, having the basses playing ultra legato while the tuba player is doing molto marcato. Very bizarre. For me, it is pretty difficult to get good intonation and blend with a big section of players while doing hard accents and vibrato. But I have been thinking of trying some of that this time around and seeing how it works. I'm also very excited to do this work on my new Nirschl York. We'll see...
