Tubas and euphoniums in Germany. My experience in Berlin/Potsdam is that they use mostly the same tubas we do(although mostly German manufacturers), euphoniums tend to be German made, and the oval shaped instrument is generally used. School bands and orchestras don't always exist the way we do but they have youth bands and orchestras outside of school. Some local music schools have private teachers (like teachers at a large music store here) and others operate like town bands do here where the older players show the younger players the ropes. They have normal band and orchestra festivals with adjudicators etc. Jobs dictate more of the directions they take. Many large cities have Police Bands, and most players have an undergrad degree. Orchestras are so numerous--opera, symphony etc. so that they is a lot of work. Euph and Baritone players are used in bands with treble clef baritones being the norm.
