Tim,

Toby is a great teacher...one who really focuses in on making music. It's true, he doesn't play much in lessons (if at all) due to a physical problem, but he can still explain to you what a tuba is supposed to sound like. As a teacher, I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but in some instances, a thousand words are unavoidable. Rest assured, he will hound you until you get it right. Besides, near every school you mentioned, there is a great orchestral tubist who you can hear almost every weekend.

As for picking which school, do some research. They're all great schools. I'd go to the one with the best scholarship offer! I was studying with Toby this year at BU, but had to drop out unexpectedly due to a family emergency regarding my 3 month old. I learned a lot from him in just a few lessons, and I plan on taking a few more and paying him directly.

Good luck. If you talk with Toby, tell him "howdy" for me.
